Kaitlin’s Kitchen will give students new opportunities to take what they grow in the Lewis greenhouse and bring it into the kitchen, expanding their hands-on learning and helping make an already unique program even more robust. Following today’s ceremony, students had the chance to show off the new kitchen and some of their culinary skills for guests.
Thank you to Kaitlin’s family and friends and everyone who helped make this vision a reality. We were also grateful to be joined by so many special guests, including Congressman Brad Schneider and Mayor Sam Cunningham, to help celebrate this exciting new chapter at Lewis.

Ms. K received a grant from the Illinois Retired Teachers Association for flexible duet and trio music so that any two or three band students could perform music together at the District Solo and Ensemble events that happens in early February each school year. Creating and performing music in a group is great for students to build life skills such as teamwork, accountability, and grit. Being awarded this grant means we can give students another opportunity to create music with their friends and another opportunity to expressive themselves while learning valuable life skills.
